Has Your Chain Link Fence Been Damaged?

Chain Link Fence Repair Tips

When a tree branch falls, you can bet it will end up damaging something. And if that happens to be your chain link fence, then you should consider yourself lucky, because performing a chain link fence repair can be easy. The advantages of doing this yourself are it will only cost you around $60 whereas if a professional did it, it could cost you upwards of $150 plus materials.

You will need to buy a new top rail section and some wire ties. The top rail should come with an open end and the other should be crimped. Then grab your hacksaw, pliers, file and a helper. Begin by removing the wire ties which hold the fence to the top rail. Then place the new rail on top of the old one and ask your helper to hold it in place while you mark the cutting line on the old section, after which mark a cut on the opposite side of the new rail where it will meet the joint.

Cut the damaged rail slide it off the and toss it aside. Then cut off the excess to mate with the pre-existing joint. Make sure you have some wiggle room by unbolting the top rail off the corner post and slide it away from the damaged section. Install the larger end side of the new rail onto the crimped side of the old rail. Once done, make the final connection and reconnect the rail end cap on the corner post.
